What does the Empowered Familes Network Provide?

Mental Wellness

According to studies, many children and teens have been impacted by mental health challenges, following the pandemic. We provide tips on how parents can normalize conversations regarding mental health, explore treatment options with their medical providers, and advocate for their children with medical providers and schools.

Leadership Development

We encourage children and teens to thrive, rise and shine! We provide a number of opportunities including oratorical training, contributing to our newsletter, co-hosting a program, engaging in community service, etc. We also host a program middle schoolers and teens called, “Empowering the Leader Within” which features established professionals as they share tips for children and teens who would like to pursue careers in law, medicine, finance, information technology, education, real estate and more.

Healthy Living

Families of color are disproportionately impacted by health challenges such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and obesity that may be preventable at times. We discuss healthy living techniques including how nutrition, diet, exercise and wellness checks can improve a family’s health and quality of life.

Cultural Identity

How a child or teen sees themselves has a direct impact on how they show up in the world. We encourage children and teens to appreciate their own cultures and to respect the cultures of others. We offer programming that explores American, African, Caribbean, Latino cultures and more. We also encourage youth of color to celebrate their history, skin color and natural hair.

Academic Enrichment

A child or teen’s experience in school can have a direct impact on their overall happiness, self esteem, success and earning potential in life. Yet sometimes children of color are not exposed to the same quality and quantity of academic enrichment opportunities as others. We share tips on pursuing academic excellence, advocating for your child in school and college and career preparedness.

Advocacy

An important part of a child or teen’s development is learning how to speak up for themselves and others. We share opportunities for legislative advocacy on issues that impact children of color as well as oratorical training opportunities.
